But you should never judge a book by its cover.
read on for my verdict.
Chur Burger, located along the foothills of Surry Hills region has garnered lots of attention since its opening for churning out affordable hits of deliciousness, and, the the long waits as if it is the only obstacle between wanting some and getting some.
Arriving at our destination early, we were refused entry at the door as if being frowned upon for our 'kiasu-ism' . It's an Asian thing I guess. After passing the time with an early pint, we threaded lightly on enemy grounds. Ordering was a breeze. One beef and one pulled pork please!
The Grilled Beef Burger ($10) with cheese, tomato jam, mustard mayo and pickles was a thing of beauty. However, it fails to feed the illusion. The beef patty a little loose and unevenly cooked, even a little dry. The nap page of mustard mayo attempting to soothe out the flaws.
Moving on, the Pulled Pork Burger ($10) fared slightly better; served with signature BBQ sauce, red slaw and fennel mayo; I was expecting a fatty richness that would make my lips slippery. In all honesty, the pulled pork could have done a lot longer cooking time and definitely more spices, the angry sluice of hot sauce rendering the whole mixture too sweet for my liking. The slaw on the other hand was a lovely addition, lending crunch and texture and also helping to neutralize any greasiness.
Does CHUR burger make it to my list of best burgers in Sydney?
I don't think so.

ah shame, usually the burgers there are pretty good!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm finding excuses here but perhaps it was their first burger of the day hence the under-performance. I'll give it another go Suze! :)
