Milk Bar by Cafe Ish: Don't get your hopes up

Milk Bar by Cafe Ish has had lots of media attention throughout the years, from its previous tenancy in Surry Hills to its later reincarnation in Redfern. Scouring through reviews and neverending shameless burger pornography, I finally reached a conclusion that I would have to make a trip down to pull a verdict out of the bag.

Located just a short walk from Redfern station, its placement has the benefits of convenience and major foot-fall from the neighboring universities and residential area. Decor was kept minimalistic and in all honesty,  I'm not usually so anal BUT the menus could use a revamp; dog-eared with the laminated grooves trapping a grotesque amount of dust; I normally look past these details but in this instance, it was a major turn-off.

My skim cappuccino arrived at the table a stark black color from the overdose of cocoa powder dusted over the top. Not a good start there...

Breakfast for us were the Spicy Soft Shell Crab Omelette ($24) and the Double Bacon cheeseburger ($9). The former a delightful blanket of creamy egg wrapping an immaculately crispy fried soft shell crab and large slices of avocado. The creamy green helping to tame the flames caused by the aromatic slathering of sambal over the omelette. A satisfying dish for  a hearty breakfast for sure. The burger however failed my expectations, the acclaimed "Coorong" Angus free range beef patty a little too tough and dry and definitely under seasoned in my opinion.

Too much hype and a lack of deliverance. Let's not get too excited now.
